ABSTRACT

A 57-year-old male patient was referred to our department with complaints of his right adrenal gland occupancy and hypertension about 6 months. When admitted to the hospital, the blood pressure was about 160/100 mmHg, and the heart rate was 110 beats/min. He was no obvious obesity, acne, abnormal mood, without weakness of limbs, acral numbness, palpitation and headache. He presented with type 2 diabetes for more than 3 years, with oral administration of metformin enteric coated tablets and subcutaneous injection of insulin glargine to control blood glucose, and satisfied with blood glucose control. Enhanced CT showed that: the right adrenal gland showed a kind of oval isodense, slightly hypodense shadow, the edge was clear, lobular change, the size was about 5.8 cm×5.4 cm, uneven density, there were nodular and strip calcification, round lipid containing area and strip low density area, and the CT value of solid part was about 34 HU. Enhanced scan showed heterogeneous nodular enhancement in the solid part of the right adrenal gland, nodular enhancement could be seen inside. The CT values of solid part in arterial phase, venous phase and delayed phase were 45 HU, 50 HU and 81 HU, respectively. Considering from the right adrenal gland, cortical cancer was more likely. No obvious abnormality was found in his endocrine examination. After adequate preoperative preparation, retroperitoneal laparoscopic adrenalectomy was performed under general anesthesia. During the operation, the 6 cm adrenal tumor was closely related to the inferior vena cava and liver, and after careful separation, the tumor was completely removed and normal adrenal tissue was preserved. The operation lasted 180 min and the blood loss was 100 mL, and the blood pressure was stable during and after the operation. There was no obvious complication. The results of pathological examinations were as follows: the size of the tumor was 7.5 cm×6.0 cm×3.5 cm, soft, with intact capsule and grayish-red cystic in section. Pathological diagnosis: (right adrenal gland) cavernous hemangioma, secondary intravascular thrombosis, old hemorrhagic infarction with calcification and ossification. After 6 months of observation, no obvious complications and tumor recurrence were found. In summary, cavernous hemangioma of adrenal gland is a rare histopathological change. Its essence is a malformed vascular mass. Blood retention is the cause of thrombosis and calcification in malformed vessels. The imaging findings were inhomogeneous enhancement of soft tissue masses, and the adrenal function examination showed no obvious abnormalities. Retroperitoneal laparoscopic surgery is feasible after adequate preoperative preparation. It is difficult to diagnose the disease preoperatively and needs to be confirmed by postoperative pathology.

ABSTRACT

Objective To analyze the evaluation results of malaria elimination and summarize the experience in Jiujiang City, so as to provide the evidence for formulating the surveillance work plan post-malaria elimination. Methods According to the requirements and arrangements of Jiangxi Eliminating Malaria Action Plan (2010 – 2020), the evaluation of malaria elimination was completed in all 13 counties (cites and districts) of Jiujiang City from 2013 to 2016, and the data were collected and analyzed. Results In Jiujiang City, the last local malaria case was reported in 2008. From 2010 to 2016, there were 20 imported malaria cases reported, including 12 cases of falciparum malaria, 7 cases of vivax malaria, and 1 case of mixed infection. Totally 67 501 fever patients were tested for Plasmodium and 13 cases were positive, with the positive rate of 0.02%. The comprehensive evaluation scores were between 88.75 and 98.15 in all the 13 counties (cities and districts), which meant they all reached the evaluative criteria. Conclusion All 13 counties (cities and districts) of Jiujiang City have passed the city level evaluative criteria of malaria elimination, and the key work should be the prevention and surveillance of imported malaria in the future.

ABSTRACT

Objective To investigate the effect of transverse extrapedicular unilateral percutaneous vertebroplasty (PVP) via transverse process in treating the osteoporotic vertebral compression fractures.Methods A retrospective study was performed on 16 patients with osteoporotic vertebral compression fractures of upper lumbar treated from August 2016 through December 2016.There were seven males and nine females,at a mean age of 73.5 years (range,62-90 years).All the patients reported severe back pain,with an average history of 2 weeks (range,1-24 weeks).MRI confirmed the diagnosis of osteoporotic vertebral compression fractures,and the compression degree of the affected vertebral body was (25.4 ± 5.3) %.All the patients were treated with extrapedicular unilateral PVP via transverse process under local anesthesia.The operation time,fluoroscopy frequency,bone cement injection volume,and bone cement dispersion were recorded.Back pain and function recovery were assessed by visual analogue scale (VAS) and Oswestry disability index (ODI),respectively.Results All patients were followed up for 6-12 months (mean,8 months).All operations were successful without complications.The average operation time was 20 min (range,15-30 minutes),and there were 3-6 times of fluoroscopy with successful incubation.The average volume of bone cement injected to each injured vertebral body was 6.2 ml (range,5-9 m1).The bone cement dispersed satisfactorily in the vertebral body.Complete relief of lumbar and back pain was achieved in 14 patients,and remarkable relief in two patients.The postoperative VAS and ODI at 24 hours,72 hours,and 6 months were significantly lower than those before operation (P <0.01).Conclusion Extrapedicular unilateral percutaneous vertebroplasty via transverse process has the advantages of uniform fractured bone cement perfusion,significant pain relief,and rapid recovery,and hence is a simple,safe and effective treatment for osteoporotic vertebral compression fractures of the upper lumbar vertebrae.

ABSTRACT

Objective To investigate the effect of arthroscopic balloon angioplasty on the recovery of limb function in patients with tibial plateau fractures (FTP). Methods Sixty-eight patients with FTP were enrolled from April 2015 to August 2016. The patients were divided into control group (traditional incisional surgery) and observation group (arthroscopic balloon angioplasty) by random number method. The efficacy and the recovery of limb function in patients of the two groups,with a retrospective analysis. Results The excellent operative rate (92.18%) in observation group was significantly higher than that in control group (70.59%), and the operative rate was significantly higher than that in control group (P < 0.05). The surgical parameters (the amount of bleeding, the time of operation, the time of getting out of bed and the postoperative flowrate) in observation group were significantly better than those in control group. The SF-36 score of observation group was significantly higher than the control group (P < 0.05). Conclusion In the treatment of arthroplasty with bronchial angioplasty, the curative effect is more accurate, which can improve the patient's limb function and improve the patients.

ABSTRACT

Objective To explore the feasibility of the catheter-based renal sympathetic denervation (RDN) guided by monitoring fractional flow reserve (FFR) with pressure guide wire. Methods Eleven minipigs were allocated into RDN group (n=8) and sham operation group (n=3). Before ablation, the angiography of bilateral renal arteries was conducted. Ablation catheter and FFR pressure guide wire were implanted in the renal arteries guided by 7F guided catheter. Then renal arteries were observed by X-ray. The FFR value (renal artery pressure/aortic pressure) was monitored by electric stimulation (20 Hz). When the FFR value had significant change, the target was to be ablated (50°C, 10 W, 60 s). The ablation was considered effective once there was no change of the above indicators after a second stimulation immediately following ablation. Results Renal artery ablation was successfully completed in all the 8 pigs of RDN group. FFR values were monitored before and after ablation, and the results showed that the FFR values were significantly decreased upon stimulation before RDN (0.73±0.07 vs 0.98±0.02, P<0.01), and the FFR values were almost unchanged immediately after ablation (0.97±0.03 vs 0.95±0.02,P=0.25), which was not observed in the sham operation group. Conclusion There is significant difference in the FFR values of the target following stimulation before and after RDN. The FFR pressure guide wire-mediated target ablation may become a new operation mode, with its effectiveness and mechanism needed to be further verified.

ABSTRACT

<p><b>OBJECTIVE</b>To observe amplitude changes of low frequency fluctuation in brain spontaneous nervous activities induced by needling at Hand Taiyin Lung Channel, and to preliminarily explore the possible brain function network of Hand Taiyin Lung Channel.</p><p><b>METHODS</b>By using functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI), 16 healthy volunteers underwent resting-state scanning (R1) and scanning with retained acupuncture at Hand Taiyin Lung Channel (acupuncture, AP). Data of fMRI collected were statistically calculated using amplitude of low frequency fluctuations (ALFF).</p><p><b>RESULTS</b>Under R1 significantly enhanced ALFF occurred in right precuneus, left inferior parietal lobule, bilateral superior temporal gyrus, bilateral middle frontal gyrus, left superior frontal gyrus, left inferior frontal gyrus, left medial frontal gyrus. Under AP significantly enhanced ALFF occurred in right precuneus, bilateral superior frontal gyrus, cerebellum, bilateral middle frontal gyrus, right medial frontal gyrus, and so on. Compared with R1, needing at Hand Taiyin Lung Channel could significantly enhance ALFF in right gyrus subcallosum and right inferior frontal gyrus. Significant decreased ALFF appeared in right postcentral gyrus, left precuneus, left superior temporal gyrus, left middle temporal gyrus, and so on.</p><p><b>CONCLUSION</b>Needing at Hand Taiyin Lung Channel could significantly change fixed activities of cerebral cortex, especially in right subcallosal gyrus, right inferior frontal gyrus, and so on.</p>

ABSTRACT

Objective To explore the renal artery diameter immediately after the renal sympathetic denervation (RDN) in patients with resistant hypertension. Methods Patients with resistant hypertension were enrolled in this study, and all patients were measured and recorded for the renal artery diameter values using the quantitative coronary angiography (QCA) before and immediately after the RDN. All the ablation parameters including starting impedance, terminal impedance, ablation power, and ablation point were recorded. Ambulatory blood pressure (BP) measurement was performed at the baseline and 6 months after RDN. Results A total of 12 patients with resistant hypertension were finally enrolled in this study. The mean ambulatory BP of the patients was (185±15)/(99±9) mmHg (1 mmHg=0.133 kPa) at admission, which was decreased by 31/15 mmHg in 6 months after RDN, showing significant difference compared with before RDN (P 0.05). No peripheral vascular complications occurred in these patients. Conclusion RDN can significantly reduce the ambulatory BP in patients with resistant hypertension, and expand the renal artery diameter immediately. The degree of renal artery diameter dilation is positively correlated with the ablation impedance decrease, but it can not predict the long-term BP in patients.

ABSTRACT

<p><b>OBJECTIVE</b>To observe the effect of acupuncture at the whole points of Hand Jueyin pericardium meridian on the amplitude of low frequency fluctuations (ALFF) of healthy people in resting state (R1) functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI).</p><p><b>METHODS</b>Totally 16 healthy subjects received structure scan of T1 and T2. Then two fMRI scans were conducted for each participant. fMRI included the resting-state scan (R1; the scanning time was 8 min 6 s), the stimulating-acupoint scan (AP; the scanning time was 8 min 6 s). fMRI data acquisition from structure scanning and function scanning were processed with format conversion and statistical analysis.</p><p><b>RESULTS</b>Under R1 state, brain regions with activated ALFF signals included bilateral superior frontal gyrus, medial frontal gyrus, middle occipital gyrus, precuneus, superior temporal gyrus, and cingulate gyrus. Under the AP state, brain regions with activated ALFF signals were bilateral superior frontal gyrus, medial frontal gyrus, middle temporal gyrus, left fusiform gyrus, precuneus, posterior cingulate, and declivis. Compared with R1 state, obvious difference of ALFF signal areas of the brain caused by acupuncture at pericardium were: bilateral cuneus, precuneus, left posterior cingulate gyrus, right middle occipital gyrus, and right occipital lingual gyrus.</p><p><b>CONCLUSION</b>Acupuncture at the whole points of Hand Jueyin pericardium meridian could significantly change inherent activity states of the cerebral cortex, especially in bilateral superior frontal gyrus, medial frontal gyrus, and precuneus.</p>

ABSTRACT

<p><b>OBJECTIVE</b>This prospective randomized double-blinded clinical trial was designed to explore the effects of amlodipine and the combination of amlodipine with terazosin in improving postvoid residual (PVR) in patients with lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS) and concomitant hypertension.</p><p><b>METHODS</b>We randomly divided 360 LUTS patients with concomitant hypertension into a 5 mg amlodipine group, a 2 mg terazosin group and a 5 mg amlodipine plus 2 mg terazosin group, and measured PVR at the baseline and 4 weeks after the treatment.</p><p><b>RESULTS</b>For male patients with LUTS associate with hypertension, all of amlodipine (APVR = 6.8) , terazosin (APVR = 7. 6), and combination group (APVR = 8.8) can significant reduced the PVR (P < . 0.1), but no significant difference was found among three groups.</p><p><b>CONCLUSION</b>Amlodipine alone or combined with terazosin can improve the PVR of the LUTS patient effectively, but had no significant difference compared with terazosin.</p>

ABSTRACT

<p><b>OBJECTIVE</b>To investigate the relationship of the acupoint and its functional location in the brain.</p><p><b>METHODS</b>Ten healthy participants were examined with the resting state functional magnetic resonance imaging (fM-RI). The scanning includes the resting state 1 (R 1), acupuncture stimulating (AP) Neiguan (PC 6) and the resting state 2 (R 2). All data were analyzed with the amplitude of low frequency fluctuations (ALFF).</p><p><b>RESULTS</b>1) During the R1, the regions with active signal on the ALFF contained bilateral superior frontal gyrus, medial frontal gyrus and some part of cerebellum (including right declive, culme, tonsil and left uvula), as well as left precuneus, right superiour temporal gyrus. 2) As for AP, the active regions with higher ALFF were bilateral superior frontal gyrus and right cuneus, as well as left middle frontal gyrus, declivis and right semi-lunar lobule. 3) The main difference on ALFF between R1 and AP appeared within bilateral cingulated gyrus and declivis, left lingualgurus, and cuneus, as well as right precuneus, fusiform gyrus, superior frontal gyrus, medial frontal gyrus and superior temporal gyrus, etc.</p><p><b>CONCLUSION</b>After acupuncture stimulating the left Neiguan (PC 6), the active regions on ALFF are detected on bilateral cingulated gyrus, right superior frontal gyrus and medial frontal gyrus, as well as bilateral declivis and left lingual gurus, etc. These regions have the close relationship with the mental disorder and nervous diseases, which might be the possible neural mechanism of acupuncture stimulating Neiguan (PC 6) for treating some of related mental disorder and nervous diseases.</p>

ABSTRACT

<p><b>OBJECTIVE</b>To probe into an effective therapy for chronic pain of cervical intervertebral disc.</p><p><b>METHODS</b>Sixty-six cases of chronic pain of cervical intervertebral disc were randomly divided into an acupoint sticking group and an acu puncture group, 33 cases in each group. The acupoint sticking group was treated with acupoint sticking therapy, and the acupuncture group with acupuncture. Tianding (LI 17), Futu (LI 18), Dazhui (GV 14), Tianzong (S 11), etc. were selected in the two groups. After treatment for 3 therapeutic courses, their therapeutic effects were observed.</p><p><b>RESULTS</b>The effective rate was 93.5% in the acupoint sticking group and 72.4% in the acupuncture group, the former being better than the latter (P<0.05); in a 3-month following-up survey, the effective rate was 90.3% in the acupoint sticking group and 65.5% in the acupuncture group, the former being better than the latter (P<0.05).</p><p><b>CONCLUSION</b>The acupoint sticking therapy has an satisfactory therapeutic effect on chronic pain of cervical intervertebral disc.</p>

ABSTRACT

<p><b>OBJECTIVE</b>To explore the mechanism of acupoint thread embedding (ATE) in treating Alzheimer's disease (AD) by means of brain functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI).</p><p><b>METHODS</b>Twenty-six patients with mild to moderate AD were assigned to the tested group and the control group in pairing, 13 in each group. ATE was performed in patients of the tested group at Shenmen (HT7), Fenglong (ST40), Taixi (KI3) and Zusanli (ST36) acupoints, once every month for 6 times in total; but for patients of the control group only sham operation was done at the same acupoints. The correlation between cognitive ability and fMRI were assessed by comparing the scores of Mini-Mental State Examination (MMSE) and Alzhemer's Disease Assessment Scale-Cognitive section (ADAS-Cog), monitored at two time points, namely, in one week before starting treatment and 1 week after terminating 6-month treatment. Furthermore, fMRI was detected to obtain the data of the cerebral blood oxygen content before treatment and 6 months after completing the 6-month therapeutic course. Correlation analysis was conducted on the obtained data using software SPM.</p><p><b>RESULTS</b>After treatment, changes of MMSE score significently increased in the test group (P < 0.01) and decreased in the control group (P < 0.01), and ADAS-Cog decreased in the test group (P < 0.01) and increased in the control group (P < 0.05), showing statistical significance between the two groups (P < 0.01, P < 0.05). The activated regions related with the change of MMSE were mainly inferior frontal gyrus, middle frontal gyrus, superior frontal gyrus, transverse temporal gyrus, on the left cerebrum and superior frontal gyrus, middle frontal gyrus, precentral gyrus, hippocampal gyrus, cingulate gyrus, postcentral gyrus, paracentral lobule on the right cerebrum; those related with change of ADAS-Cog were superior frontal gyrus, middle frontal gyrus, fusiform gyrus, inferior temporal gyrus, hippocampal gyrus on the left cerebrum, and superior frontal gyrus, middle frontal gyrus, precentral gyrus, fusiform gyrus, transverse temporal gyrus, postcentral gyrus, middle occipital gyrus on the right cerebrum.</p><p><b>CONCLUSION</b>ATE could improve the cognitive ability of AD patients, its possible mechanism may be through the activation on the cognition related regions of frontal, temporal lobe and marginal system, as well as those of cerebellum.</p>

ABSTRACT

<p><b>OBJECTIVE</b>To observe clinical therapeutic effect of catgut implantation at acupoint on Alzheimer's disease (AD).</p><p><b>METHODS</b>Twenty-six cases with mild-moderate AD were divided into an acupoint catgut implantation group and a control group by sample-paired method. The acupoint catgut implantation group were treated with cat-gut implantation at Shenmen (HT 7), Zusanli (ST 36), Fenglong (ST 40) and Taixi (KI 3), and the control group with the same manipulation at the same acupoints with no catgut implanted, once each month, for 6 months. Mini-Mental State Examination (MMSE), Activity of Daily Living (ADL) and Alzheimer's Disease Assessment Scale-Cognitive Section (ADAS-Cog) scores were recorded before and after treatment and analyzed statistically.</p><p><b>RESULTS</b>After treatment, the score of MMSE significantly increased (P < 0.01), the score of ADAS-Cog significantly decreased (P < 0.01) and the score of ADL did not significantly change in the acupoint catgut implantation group; compared with the control group, the score of MMSE in the acupoint catgut implantation significantly increased (P < 0.01), the score of ADAS-Cog significantly decreased (P < 0.05) and the score of ADL did not significantly change in the acupoint catgut implantation.</p><p><b>CONCLUSION</b>Acupoint catgut implantation therapy increases cognitive function of the patient of AD, which provides a new therapeutic method for aged AD.</p>

ABSTRACT

<p><b>OBJECTIVE</b>To search the mechanism of Huaisanzhen in treating the nerve root pain caused by protrusion of lumbar intervertebra disc.</p><p><b>METHODS</b>Sixty male SD rats were randomly divided into a normal control group, a sham operation control group, a model control group, an aspirin-DL-lysine control group, a routine body acupuncture group, and a Huaisanzhen treatment group. The aspirin-DL-lysine control group, the routine body acupuncture group and the Huaisanzhen treatment group were treated by aspirin-DL-lysine through intramuscular injection, routine acupuncture and Huaisanzhen therapy, respectively. The pain threshold and the content of brain 5-HT in each group were determined.</p><p><b>RESULTS</b>The pain threshold significantly increased in the Huaisanzhen treatment group as compared with that in the model control group at the same hour points (P < 0.05). And at the 30 min, the pain threshold in the aspirin-DL-lysine control group and the routine body acupuncture group was significantly higher than that in the model control group, and the Huaisanzhen treatment group was significantly higher than that in the aspirin-DL-lysine control group and the routine body acupuncture group (all P < 0.05). The 5-HT contents at the same time in the Huaisanzhen treatment group were higher than those of the model control group and the aspirin-DL-lysine control group (P < 0.01). The 5-HT content at 30 min in the Huaisanzhen treatment groups was significantly higher than that of the routine body acupuncture group (P < 0.05).</p><p><b>CONCLUSION</b>The analgesic effect of Huaisanzhen treatment is closely related to increase of 5-HT content in the brain.</p>

ABSTRACT

<p><b>OBJECTIVE</b>To observe the analgesic effect of ankle-three-needle on nerve root pain of prolapse of lumbar intervertebral disc.</p><p><b>METHODS</b>Three hundred and eighty cases were randomly divided into an ankle-three-needle group, a routine acupuncture group and a medication group. The ankle-three-needle group were treated with ankle-three-needle therapy, i. e. according to different prolapse segments, points Gentong No. 1, 2 and 3 were selected with lifting-kneading needle insertion method used and the needle was inserted along the skin; the routine acupuncture group were treated with acupuncture at Shenshu (BL 23), Qihaishu (BL 24) and Jiaji (EX-B 2) of the prolapse corresponding segment, and Ciliao (BL 32), etc. with uniform reinforcing-reducing manipulation; the medication group were treated with routine buttock intramuscular injection of aspirin-DL-lysine plus saline.</p><p><b>RESULTS</b>The time inducing analgesia was 6 min in the ankle-three-needle group, 27 min in the routine acupuncture group and 18 min in the medication group. The effect-lasting time was 24.48 h in the ankle-three-needle group, 8.93 h in the routine acupuncture group and 6.36 h in the medication group, with a significant difference as the ankle-three-needle group compared with both the routine acupuncture group and the medication group, but with no significant difference between the routine acupuncture group and the medication group. After treatment, there were very significant differences in change tendency of the analgesic score among the three groups at all the time points (P < 0.01). And there was very significant differences in the changing tendency of straight-leg raising test among the three groups at 0.5 h, 1 h, 24 h and 48 h (P < 0.001).</p><p><b>CONCLUSION</b>Ankle-three-needle has obvious therapeutic effect on nerve root pain induced by prolapse of lumbar intervertebral disc.</p>

ABSTRACT

<p><b>AIM</b>To establish an assay method for the determination of three kinds of biologically active components, five compounds (emodin, chrysophanol, baicalin, wogonin and berberine hydrochloride) simultaneously in Sanhuang tablets.</p><p><b>METHODS</b>HPLC was carried out, using a C18 column (150 mm x4. 6 mm ID, 5 microm) set at 30 degrees C, acetonitrile-0.02 mol x L(-1) acetic ammonium (adjusted pH to 3. 50 with acetic acid glacial) as mobile phase (using gradient) with flowing rate 1. 00 mL x min(-1) and detected at 270 nm.</p><p><b>RESULTS</b>The calibration curve of emodin was linear from 0.020 7 microg to 0.207 microg with r = 0.999 9, the average recovery was 99.65% with RSD 1.25%. The calibration curve of chrysophanol was linear from 0.052 microg to 0.52 microg with r = 0.999 9, and the average recovery was 100.36% with RSD 0.96%. The calibration curve of baicalin was linear from 0.250 5 microg to 2.505 microg with r =0.999 8, and the average recovery was 100.22% with RSD 1.29%. The calibration curve of wogonin was linear from 0.047 6 microg to 0.476 microg with r = 0.999 9, and the average recovery was 98.97% with RSD 1.20%. The calibration curve of berberine hydrochloride was linear from 0.053 12 microg to 0.531 2 microg with r = 0.999 5, and the average recovery was 96.02% with RSD 2.02%. The established method had also been used in the determination of the 5 compounds in 10 different batches of Sanhuang tablets.</p><p><b>CONCLUSION</b>This method was proved to be accurate and quick, and can be used for the quality control of the preparation all-around.</p>

ABSTRACT

<p><b>OBJECTIVE</b>To study the protective effect of Naomaitong on inflammatory cascade response after focal cerebral ischemia reperfusion in aged rats.</p><p><b>METHOD</b>We duplicated focal cerebral ischemia model with MCAO, with ischemia 3 h and I/R 1, 3, 6, 12 d points. The effect of Naomaitong on the nervous dysfunction score, the water content of cerebral constitution and the expression of TNF-alpha, VCAM-1, ICAM-1 and its mRNA were observed, and the group with nimodipine was as control.</p><p><b>RESULT</b>The nervous dysfunction score (I/R1, 3, 6 d), the water content of cerebral constitution (all the time points), the expression of TNF-alpha, VCAM-1 (I 3 h, I/R 1, 3, 6 d), ICAM-1 (I 3 h,I/R 1, 3, 6 d) and its Mrna (all the time points) in model group were higher than those of the sham-operated group; The nervous dysfunction score, the water content of cerebral constitution (I/R 3, 6, 12 d), the expression of TNF-alpha, VCAM-1 (I 3 h, I/R 1, 3 d), ICAM-1 and its mRNA (I 3 h, I/R 1, 3 d) in model group were decreased compared with that of model group. The nervous dysfunction score (I/R 6, 12 d), the expression of TNF-alpha, ICAM-1 (I/R 1d) and its mRNA (I/R 1, 3 d) in Naomaitong group were higher than that of Nimodipine group.</p><p><b>CONCLUSION</b>Naomaitong could protect brain cell from damage after focal cerebral ischemia reperfusion injury by inhibiting the expression of TNF-alpha, adhesion molecule.</p>

ABSTRACT

<p><b>OBJECTIVE</b>To search for an effective therapy for the nerve root pain caused by prolapse of lumbar intervertebral disc.</p><p><b>METHODS</b>One hundred and ninety-two cases were randomly divided into a Huaisanzhen group of 96 cases, a drug control group of 48 cases and an acupuncture control group of 48 cases. The Huaisanzhen group were treated by Huaisanzhen therapy, the drug control group by intramuscular injection of aspirin-DL-lysine and the acupuncture control group by routine acupuncture.</p><p><b>RESULTS</b>The time inducing analgesic effect was shorter, the effect-lasting time was longer, and the analgesic effect and the comprehensive therapeutic effect were better in the treatment group as compared with the two control groups with very significant differences (P < 0.01).</p><p><b>CONCLUSION</b>Huaisanzhen therapy has a better analgesic effect on the nerve root pain due to prolapse of lumbar intervertebral disc.</p>

ABSTRACT

<p><b>OBJECTIVE</b>To search for an effective method for treatment of prolapse of lumbar intervertebral disc.</p><p><b>METHODS</b>Ninety-four cases were randomly divided into a treatment group of 48 cases and a control group of 46 cases. The treatment group were treated by acupuncture and moxibustion combined with sacral injection and the control group with simple sacral injection. Their therapeutic effects were compared.</p><p><b>RESULTS</b>The cured and total effective rates were 64.6% and 97.9% in the treatment group, and 37.0% and 89.1% in the control group, with statistically significant differences between the two groups (both P < 0.05).</p><p><b>CONCLUSION</b>Acupuncture and moxibustion combined with sacral injection has a significant therapeutic effect on prolapse of lumbar intervertebral disc.</p>
